About the Founder

My Story

Please allow me to introduce myself: I am a motivated marine professional with technical and offshore working experience, who enjoys unfolding customer needs as well as sharing knowledge.

After working in the marine and offshore industry for nearly forty years, the time has come for others to benefit from my experiences in offshore construction, renewable energy and workforce development.

From my early career as a Marine Engineering Officer in the Royal Netherlands Navy to leadership roles in offshore oil & gas and offshore wind I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge in a playful way with the aim to have participants take new information home with them.

Bridging Industry and Education

Bridging the gap between industry and education sounds so easy, but to actually do it takes a certain skill.

In my nine years with Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden where I helped to set up offshore education at the Bachelor level as well as a Minor Oil & Gas in Den Helder I managed to give over 100 students a practical internship. This varied from working as a designer in an office to working offshore.

For the education part I drew from my network so that the students received hands-on practical exercises and lectures from over 35 specialists from the working field.

Specialized Training at DOB Academy

When working for DOB Academy in Delft, I successfully designed specialized training programs. Examples are the Teach-the-Teacher sessions where teachers from all over the Netherlands came to Delft to exchange knowledge and views on offshore education.

Another program was the Summer School for Japanese students, where I took the students to relevant companies and introduced them to my network.

International Experience

Not only do I have experience in the Netherlands, but also internationally. I have brought tailored courses from DOB Academy to Ireland, Japan, Thailand, USA, Canada.

During the COVID period courses were being held online for Lebanon, Tunisia and later for Uruguay, Colombia and Norway.

For DOB Academy I was in charge of transferring courses to Nagasaki Ocean Academy as well as developing a unique course (Floating Offshore Wind).

Recent Projects

I think my greatest achievement was when I worked and stayed in Newfoundland in 2023 for four months to help set up specialized programs for College of the North Atlantic (CNA).

Both vocational level programs “Wind Turbine Technician” and “Hydrogen Technician” are seen to be successful for both students and industry.

In 2024 I returned to Newfoundland for another four months to further assist in public outreach and set up the Neweg Institute with the indigenous community.

The Neweg institute has the aim to provide courses for the local industry leaders (new and experienced) as well as collaborate with CNA, Memorial University to further develop and promote green energy (onshore wind and hydrogen).

The two-day “Introduction to wind and hydrogen” courses were appraised by all the participants from the local industry and supported by Energy NL, an organization that represents over 500 service companies in the energy sector for Newfoundland and Labrador.
